Dubai is famous for oil and it is the oil industry that was always the backbone of Dubais economy. Today Dubais economy has developed much more. Oil continues to support its economy but it no longer is the backbone of its economy. This city is now home to many a multi-national companies that have greatly added to its economy. It has also developed in manufacturing, IT etc. Dubais GDP totaled a whooping $16.4 billion US in 2000.

Dubai is on its way to becoming one of the top cities of the world. Dubai has definitely found its way to put itself on to the map. No longer are people looking for jobs in the U.S. or U.K. people are welcoming job opportunities in Dubai and are looking to relocate to Dubai. That is where the money is. There are tons of job opportunities in Dubai. Some of the most important industries have parked themselves in Dubai like pharmaceuticals, beverages, paper, chemicals, rubber etc. during the 1990s alone, the financial service industry grew by 12% per annum. All major accounting firms across the world have found home here in Dubai. It has also grown in the banking sector. Many international banks are being set up in this city. In 2000 in March the first stock exchange office of the UAE was set up in Dubai.

The tourist sector has indeed blossomed and flourished in Dubai. Tourism has added much to the economy of this city. In just the last 10 years the number of tourists has increased to this destination. Dubai has even been attracting tourist form western Europe. The government of Dubai hopes to continue attracting tourists, its aiming at 10 million a year before 2010. Dubai is doing its best to make its city attractive, the sky line is high and displays beautiful architecture. Many luxurious buildings, hotels and clubs are being built.

Dubai stands tall even among the other emirates. It is a mixture of Arabic as well as western culture. Life in Dubai is very entertaining. Dubai boasts both traditional clubs as well as modern pubs that are spread out all over the city. There are spas and just everything you need to have a splendid time.
